Ardbeg An Oa is singularly rounded, due in no small part to time spent in our newly established bespoke oak Gathering Vat where whiskies from several cask types including; sweet Pedro Ximenez; spicy virgin charred oak; and intense ex-bourbon casks, amongst others familiarise themselves with each other. The result is a dram with smoky power, mellowed by a delectable, smooth sweetness.

EXPERT REVIEW

Appearance: A shimmering light gold

Aroma: Subtly smoky on the nose, aromas of creamy toffee, aniseed, treacle and dates emerge. A drop of water reveals the classic Ardbeg notes of lime and pine.

Taste: On the palate, this is a smooth and creamy whisky, with flavours of chocolate, toffee and smoky spices. All balanced by a lingering, smoothly sweet finish.

Blue cheeses and dark chocolate

Enjoy neat, with a little water or 2-3 large rocks of ice.

Islay, Scotland. Founded in 1815, the Ardbeg distillery is revered by connoisseurs around the world as the peatiest, smokiest and most complex of all the Islay malts, while being renowned for its delicious sweetness, a phenomenon known as “the peaty paradox”. Regarded today as the “Ultimate Islay Malt”, Ardbeg is a distinctive whisky with a compelling history. During the 1980s and 1990s, Ardbeg suffered from an uncertain future and was purchased by The Glenmorangie Company in 1997. Since then, the distillery has risen like a phoenix and today Ardbeg is well established as a niche, cult malt, with a passionate following.
