Cask No. 0252 was singled out by Dr Bill Lumsden as it lay in the hushed depths of Warehouse 32. With an innovative finish in a rare burgundy cask, this single malt delivers unusual spice and finesse. The whisky’s floral, fruity spirit was distilled on Thursday 16th April 1998. And, under the watchful gaze of Dr Bill, then Glenmorangie’s passionate Distillery Manager, it was laid down in American oak bourbon casks for a careful maturation. Nine years later, having sourced Glenmorangie’s first casks from the Pommard appellation in Burgundy, Dr Bill filled a select few with this whisky. Fascinated to explore the impact of these singular red wine casks, he left Cask No. 0252 to age for another 13 years. Such a long finish might have brought burgundy’s savoury side to the whisky. But filled with fruit notes and elegant spice, Cask No. 0252 stands out from the rest.
